If we had to mention the Top 3 most sought-after household appliances, the standing vacuum cleaner - which has been searched for under countless names: cordless, battery-powered, rod, stick vacuum cleaner and I could list more - would definitely be on the podium. This is one of those products that saves a lot of time, but also replaces traditional corded vacuum cleaner solutions. In the last 10 years, the market has been roughly dominated by Chinese brands, such as the Xiaomi upright vacuum cleaners, but we could also mention the Proscenic brand and other brands of the Xiaomi ecosystem, such as Dreame, Jimmy, Roborock or Roidmi. Among Western brands, Dyson vacuum cleaners are practically fixed stars, but Electrolux, Bosch, Philips and Rowenta also excel with products in the cordless vacuum cleaner segment.
Almost without exception, the members of the editorial staff have some kind of stick vacuum cleaner model, these are several years old and withstand creasing quite well, some have been doing their job since 2018. Who we recommend it to
Dysons are legendary wireless vacuum cleaners, the product range is very wide, so almost everyone can find the right one for themselves. The Dyson V12 Detect Slim Absoulte is the smaller model among their cordless vacuum cleaners equipped with a "laser finder". Cleaning is a surprisingly pleasant experience with it, and its quality is premium. Basically, we recommend it to those for whom brand and quality, as well as top technical achievements, are important, and the number on the price tag is secondary.
Why is it out of stock?
I have already mentioned the laser finder, but here is the dirt quantity sensor, which displays how many dirt particles the machine has collected. The range of accessories is plentiful, and somehow the feeling of cleaning is much more pleasant than with competitors. The machine is very light, it turns perfectly, it is not very loud, it is "dysonosos", which can only be appreciated by those who have already held several vacuum cleaners in their hands. I don't know how they do it, but you can really feel the difference in favor of Dyson upright vacuum cleaners.

Who we recommend it to
Dyson's latest development is a vacuum cleaner that does everything at once, that is, they have combined their stick vacuum cleaners with dry-wet vacuum cleaners, and the new model even removes mites. A total of four head combinations can be put together, which is pretty rough. It does everything at the same time, except self-emptying, all for a visible amount. If you believe in the Dyson nimbus, are looking for top quality and want all the functions at the same time, we recommend this device, but you will have to dig deep into your wallet in return.
Why is it out of stock?
If you only want to take home one device that is a real cleaning Swiss army knife, it should be the Dyson V15s Dectect Slim Submarine upright vacuum cleaner. Its suction power is brutal, it has a long operating time, it can mop up, it shows the particles with a laser, it has several types of roller brushes, a dirt sensor, it regulates its own suction power, it has a lot of narrowing heads, it removes mites, so it knows everything. It even collects pet hair and scattered food remains, and the hair doesn't even get tangled on it, in a word, it's full.

Who we recommend it to
The Dutch brand Philips is not very talkative about the technical parameters of its products, but regarding the Series 8000 Aqua Plus, we have no doubt that the hefty price tag covers quite modern technology. This is also an upright vacuum cleaner sharpened for mopping, from which if you remove the mopping adapter, you get a particularly light model. For those who believe in the Dutch more than their competitors, are looking for a Dyson alternative and want to cover a large cleaning surface, this is a decent choice, we basically recommend it to them.
Why is it out of stock?
I'll start with the most interesting parameter, the operating time. 80 minutes is also very impressive, but the Turbo level is much more tempting, which is typically only 10-15 minutes for competitors. In the case of the Philips Series 8000 Aqua Plus, this is half an hour, which is two or three times longer than the competitors, even among friends, so it is a good choice for those who need to clean a larger house or several levels. Especially if you also want to wash dishes or if there are pets in the apartment, as the manufacturer also recommends it for small pets.

Dreame Vortech Z10 Station upright vacuum cleaner - Far Eastern perfection, cheaper
The advantages of a standing vacuum cleaner:

Who we recommend it to
The Dreame Vortech Z10 Station is part of the Xiaomi ecosystem, which represents a very high level in terms of design and assembly quality. You can already guess from the name Station that this is an upright vacuum cleaner equipped with a self-emptying docking station. They didn't really go for mopping, which is somewhat justified, since this is not yet a mature technology in this segment, in return, despite the fact that it is a premium product, it is much cheaper than a Dyson or a Philips. We recommend it to those who don't care what brand works against dirt, but value for money is important and are looking for good quality.
Why is it out of stock?
The main achievement of the Dreame Vortech Z10 Station wireless vacuum cleaner is its self-emptying and the fact that it does not have to change its dust bag for 90 days. Instead, you have to "mess around" with the accessory material, which not everyone likes. All self-draining upright vacuum cleaners stand on a console, which is good because you can collect and hang all of their accessories here, so things don't fall around the apartment. Based on our more than 6 years of experience, we say that this is a pretty significant advantage.

The Jimmy brand is also part of the Xiaomi ecosystem, but according to our experience, they don't use as much premium materials as Dreame or Roborock, but they are much cheaper. We tested several members of the H10 series, the only difference between the Pro and the Flex is that the Flex gets a very useful bendable extension tube, which is easy to commando under the furniture. The Jimmy H10 Pro/Flex wireless vacuum cleaner is a worthy choice for those who are not bothered by lower quality, but are looking for the technical parameters of top brands at a cheaper price.
Why is it out of stock?
The interesting thing about the Jimmy H10 Flex is that it has roughly the same technical parameters as top western vacuum cleaners. 80 minutes of operating time, 26 kPa suction power, both values to be appreciated, but here the emphasis is actually on the accessories. LED head and a tube that bends in the middle, which allows you to easily go under the bed, a dirt detection sensor that shows the level of dirt and automatic suction power adjustment, so even the carpets get their due.

Who we recommend it to
Xiaomi G20 lite is a very typical Xiaomi upright vacuum cleaner, it doesn't do anything extra, but it does it so perfectly that people enjoy using their stick vacuum cleaners. This is their Lite model, i.e. the smallest variant, which is so cheap that no one offers such quality for that price. However, the suction power limits its use, but it still handles a few carpets, laminate floors, tiles, and parquet floors. We recommend it for apartments up to a maximum of 80 square meters, we also have a similar one and it has been doing its job for years.
Why is it out of stock?
I have already mentioned the price, the other is the supply of spare parts that lasts for years, which is typical for Xiaomi upright vacuum cleaners. By the way, these devices are very pleasant to use, they are quiet, light, and even have extras like the LED motorized head. But before I try anything else, look at its price: you won't get a single thank you for that much anywhere else, so this is one of the best choices for those who want to get away with this topic on the cheap.

JIGOO C300 upright vacuum cleaner – A sleeper stick vacuum cleaner that sneaks under the threshold
The advantages of a standing vacuum cleaner:

- 5-stage filtration, with HEPA filter
- gigantic 1,2 liter dust container
- it treats the hairs and hairs quite well
Specification

Who we recommend it to
The JIGOO C300 stick vacuum cleaner is a second-line product, but it was still worth selecting for our list, on the one hand, because we want to show what low-flying, under-the-radar options there are, and on the other hand, that rough technical parameters can be packed into a relatively undemanding exterior. The quality of the JIGOO C300 is not a big extra, but it is, for example, with its suction power and gigantic dust container. We recommend it to those who value the look and the use of materials, but need the kraft and don't want to frequently mess around with dustpans and bags.
Why is it out of stock?
The JIGOO C300 is not a self-emptying vacuum cleaner, but it has such a huge dust tank that it beats the entire market. The size of an average dirt collector is 0,4 l, here 1,2 is available, which can be filled with a suction power of 30 kPa. It filters the air through 5 layers, of course a HEPA filter closes the line, and those who don't have enough 45-minute operating time can postpone this by buying a second battery, as the battery is replaceable. Even so, you can stay well below the competition's prices.

Who we recommend it to
Ultenic is a sub-brand of the Proscenic company, most of their devices are available under several names. The Ultenic FS1 self-draining upright vacuum cleaner is practically equivalent to the Proscenic DustZero S3, only the design is different, but it is worth looking for their accessories under this name, for example. FS1 is nothing more than a budget version that copies the products of major manufacturers. This one also goes without emptying for weeks and is a good bull, but in return you have to lower the quality. But this will deter few people if half or a third of the price is listed on the price tag, and we recommend the device primarily to them.
Why is it out of stock?
The Ultenic FS1 upright vacuum cleaner doesn't want to be seen as anything other than what it is: a cheap all-round device with a decent suction power, which is also good for pets, as our test shows. It handles everything, be it cat litter, dust, crumbs, but it even picks up bearing balls with this performance. The long operating time can be further increased thanks to its replaceable battery, but for example the LED head also serves well.

Who we recommend it to
The Proscenic P11 is an incredibly popular cheap cordless vacuum cleaner series. I use the plural because it is available in three variants. Long operating time, no-frills, although not very high-quality design, HEPA filter, and such a rough suction power that it almost picks up the tiles. However, its popularity is much more due to the low price and easily combinable accessories, since in some places you could get the product very cheaply. Since the JIGOO C300 is a direct competitor to the cheaper Ultenic vacuum cleaners, we recommend it to those who are looking between them.
Why is it out of stock?
Due to its power anyway, this 35 kPa seemed quite unbelievable at first, but based on the test of the previous sibling model, it seems completely real. However, this is not the Chinese black magic part, but the fact that in addition to the traditional Proscenic P11 upright vacuum cleaner, there is a Mopping variant, which includes a mopping kit, and a pet grooming kit, which can be used to care for small animals. It is important that the Proscenic P11 is not a basic model, it is also a bull, it has an app-controlled, LED head, which is complemented by the pet care set. The design of the Mopping version is a little different, but the point is the same there. From the 3 sets, choose the one that contains the most important functions for you.

Siguro VT-K900B TurboVac Star upright vacuum cleaner - Desirable stick vacuum cleaner from the Alza range

Who we recommend it to
The Siguro VT-K900B upright vacuum cleaner was included in our selection because we value Alza's own brand products, many of which we tested on our partner site, Reflek. Although the vacuum cleaner itself would not be particularly interesting, Alza's extra services are attractive enough to make it worth looking at, otherwise it is not a bad product at all. We recommend the Siguro VT-K900B upright vacuum cleaner to those who value warranty, hyper-fast delivery and other extras.
Why is it out of stock?
The Siguro VT-K900B can operate for 40 minutes, which is enough to clean approximately 80-100 square meters, but if this is not enough, you can replace the battery. Here, too, the filtration is done with a HEPA filter, which is excellent for people with allergies, and it is also made of antibacterial materials and even treats animal hair. But that's not the point, but that with the AlzaPlus+ service, the company will drop the stuff into an AlzaBox for you overnight, and how you can request an extension of the warranty, in addition to the not exactly short 36-month warranty.
Countless devices could have been written about, but only in the ecosystem of Xiaomi standing vacuum cleaners are there 5-6 manufacturers who were left out. Then there is the range of Sencor vacuum cleaners, which is also worth checking out, but the selection of Electrolux upright vacuum cleaners is not bad either, you can view them on the Product Finder.
Everything you need to know about standing vacuum cleaners
Everyone has a vacuum cleaner at home. Ten years ago, you were using wired solutions almost without exception, then somewhere around 2015 battery-equipped vacuum cleaners began to spread, which have countless advantages, starting with the fact that they take up much less space, and they can perform all kinds of functions - a vacuum cleaner for crumbs or even a device suitable for cleaning a car. . Of course, newer upright vacuum cleaners have a much wider functionality, they clean, recognize carpets, detect the amount of dirt, but can also communicate with your phone. We will now introduce you to this world!
What is the difference between the different designations? Where does the term standing vacuum cleaner come from?
In America, standing vacuum cleaners already existed in the 1960s, they were called upright vacuum cleaners. These were still large and heavy devices, and a dust bag hung on the push handle, which had to be emptied after cleaning. These weren't yet cordless vacuum cleaners, as they didn't have a battery, but rather corded variants of the traditional suction tube vacuum cleaner.
Source: Facebook; Old School
With the development of battery technology, cordless vacuum cleaners appeared, the custodian of which was the English Dyson brand, they used to call the brand the Mercedes of stick vacuum cleaners. They distributed their battery-powered vacuum cleaners under the name stick vacuum cleaner, albeit at a very high price. They could do this for a long time, because they didn't have much competition, until about 10 years ago. At that time, the market was dominated by Chinese brands, especially Xiaomi and its sub-brands belonging to its ecosystem, which practically brought the quality of Dyson's upright vacuum cleaners at half the price, or even less.
Since the cordless vacuum cleaner segment has grown brutally, all western brands wanted to enter here, so today Rowenta, Bosch, Philips and many other brands offer such solutions, and you can find products among the vacuum cleaners that are still running, these are mainly they come from Chinese brands.
The bottom line is that the following terms refer to the same product, there is no essential difference between them:
- stationary vacuum cleaner (stationary vacuum cleaner, if you did not start from the separated spelling of the English stick vacuum)
- cordless vacuum cleaner
- battery/axis/battery vacuum cleaner
- stick vacuum cleaner
- stick vacuum cleaner
- hand vacuum cleaner (as long as we accept that it can be held and pushed in one hand)
If you want to narrow down the products according to technical parameters or construction characteristics, then according to the following, the upright vacuum cleaner is a device that:
- has a battery
- it almost always has a motorized head
- works with a roller brush
- its weight is low, it can be disassembled
- their performance is not very high, but their suction power is good because they pre-accelerate the air
- they have a removable container
How does an upright vacuum cleaner work?
The operation of an upright vacuum cleaner differs greatly from that of a conventional vacuum cleaner. Starting from its furthest point, the first component is the motor head. There are models with only one suction nozzle, and in the case of wireless vacuum cleaners, you can also put restrictors on the end of the tube - crevice nozzle, bristle head - but this is basically not the case. Why?
Because all the more serious models accelerate the air with a motorized head in which a brush rotates, there is also a kind of mechanical beating that cleans the surfaces better. There are several types of motorized heads, the larger ones are for traditional tasks and the smaller ones are mite removal heads. The upright vacuum cleaner can use several roller brushes, the ones with an even surface are for floors, the bristles are for carpets, and of course there are good, mixed solutions for both. The motorized head of the wireless vacuum cleaner is followed by an extension tube, which can be adjusted and removed in many cases, if you want to use it as a crumb vacuum cleaner or at the top of a ladder, for example.
The heart of the device is the central unit, which houses a motor - usually brushless, a dust container and various filters, and there are models with a Bluetooth module or a display, or both. Stick vacuum cleaners work by sucking air through a multi-layer filter system, usually there is a coarse filter to sort out the larger particles, a medium-sized filter and a sponge filter, a HEPA filter for the smallest components, but there are also multi-stage systems.
Dyson invented the Cyclone technology, but today almost all upright vacuum cleaners work this way, they just don't call their own solution that way. The essence of this is that air is sucked through "nozzles", which are pressed against the side of the tank and circulated, and here the particles of different sizes are separated from each other. The point is that the clean air escapes at the bottom/side of the wireless vacuum cleaner. The container can usually be emptied with a single movement over the dustbin, but there are also self-emptying solutions similar to robot vacuum cleaners, which collect the dirt in a dust container in the support bracket.
The battery is placed at the bottom of the central unit, which can either be removed and replaced or it is built in and that's about it. It is not a complicated structure, but its parts can be varied quite well, so the models also differ greatly from each other.
Accessories for cordless vacuum cleaners
I discussed the main components above when presenting the operation, since without knowing them it would be difficult to understand what a stick vacuum cleaner does. However, there are various accessories that are worth saying a few words about, as they can greatly increase the usability of such devices:
- reducing heads: these can be placed in place of the motor head to increase the pressure and to reach into tight places like crevices
- flexible reducer: the same as the previous one, only it is not rigid, but has a bendable part of the head
- additional holder: can usually be snapped onto the extension tube and stores the reducer heads
- docking station vagy holder: it can often be drilled into the wall and the power supply cable can also be inserted into it, so if you hang the battery vacuum cleaner on the wall, it will also charge
- mop/erasing plate: a water tank and a mop pad can be hung on the end of the motorized head, so that the manual vacuum cleaner also cleans up while vacuuming
- docking station: this is usually a base and a tubular frame, on which you can hang the vacuum cleaner and hold not only the cleaning tool, but also all the accessories
- can be folded tube: the extension tube can usually be replaced with a version with which the wireless vacuum cleaner can be folded in the middle and thus the head can be pushed under the bed
- hair clipper: this is a row of blades in the rotating head, not all models have it, the point is that it cuts hair and animal hair
Technical parameters of the standing vacuum cleaner
An important selection point is the technical parameters of a wireless vacuum cleaner. It's not a bad filtering method, but it's often deceptive, so let's review what matters and what doesn't:
- suction force (Pa): value given in Pascal, the peak is now somewhere above 30 Pa. This is not the only thing that matters, the quality of the cleaning is determined by the material of the roller brush, the degree of narrowing and other things.
- performance (W): shows how much power the engine is working with. It is actually quite difficult to conclude anything from it, because this is the recorded power, not the amount with which the stick vacuum cleaner absorbs dirt
- suction power (AW): air watt, i.e. the power that appears at the end of the suction nozzle or motor brush, and with which the battery vacuum cleaner actually works
- battery capacity (mAh): shows the capacity of the battery, but you will also need the voltage values to know the operating time. In general, the more cells it consists of, the higher its voltage or capacity, which is why its operating time is longer (P=I*U, i.e. less current is needed for the same power at a higher voltage).
- operating time (minutes): it is given in minutes and shows how long you can expect to operate at the lowest setting. Manufacturers often play tricks by stating the value in the lowest setting without a motorized head, while the highest setting is listed for the suction power. Of course, this does not mean that the wireless vacuum cleaner does not clean well in the lowest setting, just do not think that it can be pushed for 60 minutes at maximum power, it will be more like 10-15 minutes.
The above are actually only good for filtering, not for anything else, and it is worth knowing that to pick up traditional dirt, approx. 2000 Pa is required - robotic vacuum cleaners are more than capable of this - carpets and furniture, as well as the bed mattress, are where extra power is needed.
Sensor set for wireless vacuum cleaners
The sensor set of cordless vacuum cleaners does not even come close to the amount of sensors of robot vacuum cleaners, but the newer models have slowly introduced a few electronic aids that are worth knowing about.
Dirt sensor
A relatively new function, there is a dirt sensor in the head that dynamically monitors the amount of dust. It comes in handy when cleaning carpets, as you can see how far the motorized head of the stationary vacuum cleaner needs to be pushed in the given area. Some Dyson solutions also display the number of particles in microns.
Carpet detection, suction power adjustment
This is probably an ultrasonic sensor, it works in the same way for battery vacuum cleaners as it does for robotic vacuum cleaners. If the density of the surface changes, the wireless vacuum cleaner will change – raise – the suction power for a while. The suction power is increased even if the given area is dirtier than the average, in which case the dirt sensor and the suction power adjustment work together.
BT module
Some upright vacuum cleaner models are able to connect to your phone and display data there. Many people think that this is unnecessary, but the alerts that the application can send to your phone are actually quite useful. One is the filter change, the second is the display of overheating or clogging, the latter of which we have used several times with Roidmi products.
Light-sensitive LED strip
The light-sensitive LED strip does nothing but follow the change in lighting conditions. In other words, when you push your head into a dark place, say under the bed, it turns on and emits light. Its simpler form is an LED strip that lights up continuously. This is the cheaper solution, while the former is the more expensive.
Laser dirt detection
Dyson introduced it to the public, its essence is that a laser light illuminates the cleaned area and shows dust particles, hairs and other dirt on the floor. It is very spectacular and useful in real life, and it is already used by the newer Xiaomi wireless vacuum cleaners.
Standing vacuum cleaner with mopping function
A water tank or a mopping plate can be attached to the motorized head of some battery vacuum cleaners, which cleans the floor while pushing the stick vacuum cleaner. Of course, it's a good question, what does this qualify as, wiping or mopping up? I lean towards the former, since these are passive elements, there is no mechanically vibrating or pressing element of the structure, but the users are able to exert force with it and rub a given area. In our opinion, it only partially replaces mopping, but it binds settled dust well, and since wireless vacuum cleaners work with a very thin layer of liquid, surfaces dry quickly. Since most of the solutions do not have a water pump - at least we have not come across one yet - it is therefore possible to add different cleaning liquids.
In any case, the combined problem of mopping and vacuuming is clearly demonstrated by the fact that, for example, Xiaomi's subsidiary Roborock has developed a separate device for the dry-wet vacuum cleaner segment called Dyad, instead of attaching separate containers to stick vacuum cleaners. However, those who definitely need one should look between the Xiaomi Jimmy and Proscenic upright vacuum cleaners.
Should the upright vacuum cleaner be traditional or self-draining?
According to the latest fashion, there are self-emptying solutions not only among robot vacuum cleaners, but also among standing vacuum cleaners. Here, too, the external dock contains the motor required for self-emptying and the multi-liter dust container, which therefore only needs to be emptied every few weeks or even longer. Usually, such solutions stand on a stand, on which you have to hang the stick vacuum cleaner from above so that its container slides into the docking station and opens automatically, so that a motor can suck out the dust. It's very loud, but it's done in 10 seconds.
How important this function is, is disputed even in the editorial office, its big advantage is that it does not fly at all. Dyson solved the emptying even without a docking station, here you have to pull a button, which ejects the dirt into the bin, but it makes some dust. Overall, we say that it is useful for people with dust allergies and asthma, because it does not create unnecessary airborne dust, but if you have an air purifier at home, it cleans the air anyway, so it is not a necessity there.
How big should a cordless vacuum cleaner be?
Basically, such devices are made for a single frame, the increase in size in the case of standing vacuum cleaners usually comes from the fact that they can be placed on a stand. There are two solutions for this: a wall holder, which must be attached to the wall with a dowel, or there is a stand on legs, which takes up quite a lot of space. The advantage of the former is that you can hide the vacuum cleaner behind a door or in other out-of-sight places and charge it, while all the accessories can be attached to the latter. Self-draining solutions always have a docking stand.
It is also a good solution – this is how we use it – that you do not use a wall bracket or a stand, but simply put the wireless vacuum cleaner in a cupboard.
As for the other dimensions of the standing vacuum cleaner, the weight is of particular importance, because these cleaning tools can also be taken to the top of a ladder, so you can clean skirting boards, curtain rods, the top of the cupboard and other hard-to-reach places with it. Take out the extension tube, the device will already be suitable for this. In its short form, it can even be used as a crumb vacuum cleaner, while the more powerful variants are also good for cleaning car upholstery. What is low mass? An average person can easily hold 1,5-2 kilograms with one hand, so upright vacuum cleaners with this weight can be considered light.
Maintenance of the stationary vacuum cleaner
Fortunately, battery vacuum cleaners are relatively easy to maintain. The HEPA filter must be replaced, but it can usually be washed or cleaned outdoors with compressed air. The metal filters and the plastic container can also be washed, but the engines should not get water! It is also worth taking out the roller brush of the motorized head, removing the hairs from it if it does not cut it by itself, and looking into the extension tube to see if it is clogged, but the more expensive solutions show this by default.
What is the application of the upright vacuum cleaner good for?
Not all stick vacuum cleaners have an application, this requires the presence of a Bluetooth module. Basically, it monitors the condition of wear and tear parts, displays the operating time and mode of operation - but this is also visible on the display - how much the stick vacuum cleaner went and when, and if there is a blockage, it also warns. The latter is not trivial, vacuum cleaners are often so powerful that they are able to compact the dirt inside them into discs without you noticing the reduction in performance. The solution to this is that sometimes you have to look into the intake pipe, but app-based machines often indicate the decrease in performance.
On what basis should you choose an upright vacuum cleaner?
It's a completely legitimate question, the general answer is that you have to configure the devices for your own life situations. Are there small children and pets in the household, and how big is the apartment and what surfaces are there in the majority? These are the most important questions, and obviously the depth of your wallet still limits the purchase. In light of this, we have collected some clues that can help you sift through the offer:
- Suction power isn't everything, but more is better. Since wireless vacuum cleaners speed up the air with the help of a rotating brush, and also beat the carpets mechanically, suction power is only one element of cleaning efficiency.
- The operating time is deceptive, most of the time it is given without a motorized head, in the lowest setting. An operating time of 60 minutes or more is considered a lot, but this can be solved with replaceable battery solutions.
- You can walk through an average 50 square meter apartment in 15-20 minutes if there are few carpets.
- Vacuuming carpets drastically reduces operating time because most cordless vacuum cleaners increase the suction power.
- Have a mite removal head in the set. Nobody needs this, until you vacuum the bed mattress with it. What comes out of it is quite spectacular, and afterwards everyone is very happy to have such an accessory.
- Buy a device that allows you to change the cylinder brush at the motorist's head. The one for the normal floor is completely homogeneous and the one for the carpet is silicone.
- Do not buy an upright vacuum cleaner that does not have a motorized head.
- In principle, there are also corded standing vacuum cleaners, but they lose the biggest advantage of wireless vacuum cleaners, portability, and they also have other problems, see below.
- Cordless vacuum cleaners that either cut the hairs or are marked with the “anti tangle” label are very useful, so that hair and fur do not get tangled up on them.
- The laser scraping light is also useful and an eye candy function. Brought in by Dyson, it works well and really motivates me to clean.
- Stock up on HEPA filters, roller brushes and dust bags - if the vacuum cleaner is self-draining - and it's also okay if the flexible tube in the motorized head can be purchased separately.
Tips and tricks for choosing an upright vacuum cleaner in 2025
This section will be quite subjective, reflecting our opinion, and we will also write things that others don't want or dare. One of them is that, unlike robot vacuum cleaners, where obsolescence is quite fast due to incredible development, the standing vacuum cleaner segment does not contain nearly as much innovation. Certain technologies do trickle down from the robot vacuum cleaner segment, but this whole wireless vacuum cleaner market is not that sexy, so the manufacturers are not so keen on big innovations. As a result, the older devices - that is, those from a few years ago - still hold their own today, and the difference between the lower-middle category and the top category is much smaller than the often six- or seven-fold price would justify.
The 150-200 dollar devices are much better suited to the average domestic income than the extremely expensive high-end solutions, because they simply do not give as much as they charge for them. There is perhaps one exception, the Dyson, which is really high-tech, but for example, in terms of material use, it cannot surpass a Xiaomi by much, even though it is available at a fraction of the price. If you don't want a lot of extra functions - laser scraping light, dust sensor, BT-based app, self-emptying, etc. - even then they didn't really suffer a disadvantage in anything.
Some manufacturers, who used to produce premium products, simply stopped producing devices, because robotic vacuum cleaners have much greater potential and can be priced much better in that segment. Examples include Roborock, which switched to dry-wet vacuum cleaners after the excellent Roborock H7, or Roidmi, whose products are hardly distributed in Hungary. Both companies are part of the Xiaomi ecosystem and have produced excellent cordless vacuum cleaners. Summarizing the above in a few important points, we came to the following conclusions:
- a mid-range upright vacuum cleaner from the Far East is no worse for material use or durability than a much more expensive Western counterpart
- the older but still available models will do the trick, if you can get them cheaper, feel free to do so
- mopping is in its infancy for upright vacuum cleaners, robotic vacuum cleaners are much more advanced in this regard
- self-emptying does not give you as much extra as in the case of a robot vacuum cleaner, you have to be unlucky with the dust bag and you even have to pay a lot for it
- in the vast majority of cases, purchasing accessories sucks after a few years, so buy models that you can store or, for example, the filters can be washed
- one of the best functions is hair cutting, which will be confirmed by everyone who has tried to operate something like this from the rollers of a stick vacuum cleaner or to cut it from the shaft of a roller brush, because it is a rare chore
Summarizing the above, you can safely look in the lower segment as well, and the Far Eastern brands have been hitting the level for years, you don't have to fear them any more than the products of any big name.
Advantages and disadvantages of using upright vacuum cleaners
Robot vacuum cleaners are spreading rapidly because they make everyday life a lot easier and free up a lot of time by replacing housework. In other words, they have countless advantages, but there are also disadvantages to using a standing vacuum cleaner.
Using a cordless vacuum cleaner advantages:
- they are much lighter than traditional vacuum cleaners, they are easy to pack away, you can stand on the top of the ladder with them and, due to their length, you can also clean hard-to-reach corners
- cordless vacuum cleaners are also good for vacuuming crumbs and cleaning cars
- no cable to knock down the door jamb
- it is also easily used by older people due to its small weight
- the accessories can be varied very well
- they don't need a dust bag
- they are easier to push, their heads turn better than traditional vacuum cleaners, and they fit better under the bed
- there are models with LED lighting on the head, so they can also be used in dark corners
- they take up much less space than their traditional counterparts
- the lack of a cable does not limit the area that can be cleaned, there is no need to constantly plug it into another outlet, nor does the cable get stuck anywhere
Disadvantages of using a cordless vacuum cleaner:
- their operating time is not infinite, like traditional vacuum cleaners (but this can be solved with more batteries)
- they have a lower suction power compared to normal vacuum cleaners
After 6 years of continuous use, we can say overall that the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages, many of us don't even have a traditional vacuum cleaner, because it is simply unnecessary in addition to a standing vacuum cleaner, it can 100% replace the old solutions. However, it is worth knowing that they are best used when there is also a robot vacuum cleaner next to them, as it basically reduces the number of cleanings.
Alternatives to or instead of standing vacuum cleaners
Our personal experience is - at least that's how we do it - that even though standing vacuum cleaners are sufficient on their own to keep a household in order, it's worth supplementing them with other equipment. In any case, it is worth taking into account what can save you time - and therefore actually money - and, of course, you must not forget that the target equipment is always better for a particular task.
But, unlike robot vacuum cleaners, which we think are not yet full-fledged devices, a wireless vacuum cleaner can perfectly stand its own ground in a small studio. Nevertheless, let's see what can be added to the repertoire and what is unnecessary based on our experience. The following devices are included in the “Best robot vacuum cleaner - These are worth the most (2025)” we moved it from our keystone content, so this list can be found there as well, with the exception, of course, of the robot vacuum cleaner part.
Window cleaning robot
One of the most useless things is the window cleaning robot. None of the ones we've seen so far have been good, forget them.
Dry-wet vacuum cleaners
Among the tools that can be used quite well are dry-wet, 2-in-1 tools. These are actually vacuum cleaners with one or more rotating brushes that are wet. The equipment achieves this by either spraying water in front of itself or directly wetting the roller brushes. We tested two, these On this link You can find.
The solution has two problems: it's quite heavy, so you can't simply lift them up, and the other is that since the roller brushes have to be clamped somewhere, a strip is always missing from the cleaning area at the support bracket on the edge of the brushes. There are exceptions to this, such as Roborock Dyad. The other problem is that the liquid can stink if you empty them at inappropriate intervals. This still makes the solution usable, but you have to take into account the mentioned problems. There are better additional solutions for wireless vacuum cleaners.
Robotic vacuum cleaners
We dealt with robot vacuum cleaners in detail in the "Best robot vacuum cleaner - These are worth the most (2025)” is a keystone in our content, so we only write tangentially about them here. They are very useful devices, they make a real perfect pair with wireless vacuum cleaners. Since they can be automated, they greatly reduce the number of cleanings, and the residue can be collected very easily with standing vacuum cleaners. Recommended category for battery vacuum cleaners.
Other additional equipment: mite remover and air purifier
Although a combination of a robot vacuum cleaner and a wireless vacuum cleaner is perfect for cleaning, there are tools that can be used to enhance the effect. There are two such devices that we think are effective, one of which can be completely replaced by a wireless vacuum cleaner.
Mite remover
Although the box of wireless vacuum cleaners often has a smaller motorized head next to the larger one - this is also called a mite remover - there are also special devices for this. Why is this even necessary? For two reasons: the house dust mite is a strong allergen, it is also related to allergies and asthma, and one of the bases of house dust is the human skin itself. This is mostly collected by those surfaces that are porous, i.e. the carpet, the fabric surface of the furniture and especially the bed mattress. They need to be cleaned from time to time, and a mite remover is suitable for this, which not only vacuums, but also physically beats the surfaces and destroys pathogens with UV light. At this link find them.
Air purifiers
Air purifiers, also known as Air Purifiers, are similar devices to various vacuum cleaners, with the difference that they do not bind the settled dust from the surfaces, but collect the dust from the air. These devices also collect particles with a HEPA filter, but countless models also neutralize odors with activated carbon filters, but there are also chemicals that filter out, and some devices also sterilize with UV light. In other words, while the robot vacuum cleaner attacks the particles from below, the air cleaner attacks from above.
Frequently Asked Questions
What upright vacuum cleaner should I buy?
We have already touched on the issue in the article, primarily reliable equipment that can be adapted to your lifestyle. But as in the case of robot vacuum cleaners, the market has been destroyed by Chinese brands, and not only because they are cheap, but also because they are good. Not only are there excellent products in the Xiaomi ecosystem, countless manufacturers - Proscenic, Ultenic - also produce good devices, but Midea or JIGOO also have valuable solutions.
Dyson's cordless vacuum cleaners have always been strong contenders, but Philips, Electrolux, Miele, Rowenta, Bosch and Gorenje are also in the market segment, or everyone's second-line favorite, Japan's Sencor. The trend of the last few years is that some large online stores have also appeared with their own branded products, for example Alza with the Siguro product line, but Lidl and Aldi also sell rebranded solutions.
Far Eastern brands:
- Xiaomi, subject right
- Xiaomi ecosystem members: Roborock, Roidmi, Dreame, Jimmy, Trouver, etc.
- The Proscenic concern: Proscenic, Ultenic
- Second line manufacturers such as JIGOO
- Sencor (Japanese)
- Gorenje (Owned by Hisense since 2018, otherwise Slovenian)
Western brands:
- Dyson, the star of cordless vacuum cleaners (English)
- Bosch, Rowenta, Miele, Gorenje (German)
- Electrolux (Swedish)
- Philips (Dutch)
Own brand products:
- Siguro (Alza)
Which is the best upright vacuum cleaner?
There is a fierce battle in the segment, but based on previous public opinion, you should look for Dyson's devices. We can confirm this to the extent that it was published on Reflekte, our partner site Dyson V12 Detect Slim Absolute We were also very satisfied with the vacuum cleaner. The prices of Dyson products are horrible, so there are better products for the price/value ratio, we would look for Xiaomi, but the older Roborock H series is also particularly decent.
What is the best upright vacuum cleaner brand?
Further analysis of the above question, the answer to it is roughly the same as there. Those who have endless financial resources should take a look at Dyson's models. For those who don't, stick with one of the longer-lasting Xiaomi vacuum cleaners.
Which is the best upright vacuum cleaner for pets, for pet hair?
All tools are good:
- which was equipped with an anti-tanlge, i.e. anti-winding design, here the roller brush is usually of a special design, and the brush can be easily pulled off the shaft
- which is equipped with a cutting edge that cuts the fur and hair before it enters the suction throat
Which is the best wireless vacuum cleaner for children?
Small children like to crawl on the floor and put everything in their mouths, so cleanliness is of utmost importance to parents. Taking this into account, here we would first consider the solutions with different mop plates, because you can put bactericidal agents in their water tanks. High suction power and efficient carpet cleaning are also important, or if the head of the cordless vacuum cleaner also disinfects with UV, you can take that as an extra point.
There are also variants equipped with a dirt sensor or a laser light source for detecting dirt, which are also useful if extra cleanliness is what you want.
Can carpets be effectively cleaned with a cordless vacuum cleaner?
Yes, there are several ways to do this. On the one hand, you can clean even more efficiently with the mite removal heads than with traditional solutions, and on the other hand, there are roller brushes specially optimized for carpets. Their shape is twisted along their axis, and they have longer and shorter bristles, which get into the deeper layers, loosening dirt. There is usually a problem with only one type of carpet, this is the rag carpet, where the motor head can catch the fringes. Even in such cases, the stick vacuum cleaner does not fail, only the electronics stop the rotating brush.
Another problematic carpet type is shaggy. We have a shaggy test carpet directly for this purpose, and the more expensive solutions cope with it, but they actually often suffer on it, simply because the hair is too long, which can also collect extra dirt.
Which is the best upright vacuum cleaner for carpets?
Most upright vacuum cleaners are able to regulate their own suction power and detect carpets with ultrasonic or other sensors. It is also okay if you go over them with the mite removal head at certain intervals, and do the same with the furniture and the bed mattress.
How do you know that a cordless vacuum cleaner is also good for carpets? You have to look at your roller brush, the one with silicone bristles is really suitable.
How often should the dust container be emptied?
The capacity of stick vacuum cleaners is quite variable, it can vary between 0,4 and 1 liter. Usually every 1-2 weeks, but there were times when we forgot and the wireless vacuum cleaner can last up to 1 month with a single emptying. Models with a self-emptying tank can last up to 60-90 days with a single dust bag.
How noisy is a standing vacuum cleaner?
It depends on what power it is running on. In general, the suction power can be adjusted in several steps, from quiet to maximum, but they are also called Eco and Turbo. The trick is that they are the quietest at the lowest setting and have the longest operating time, while at the highest power they are the loudest and last the shortest time, in return their suction power increases drastically.
It depends on the type of standing vacuum cleaner, but the noise level during vacuuming is between 60-85 decibels, on average 65-70 dB is what you hear. The self-emptying tank can be extra loud, but it does its job in 10 seconds, so for those who get used to it, it won't cause a particularly big problem.
What constitutes good suction power?
New and new records are set every year, now the leading stick vacuum cleaners in the field are somewhere around 35 pascals. Of course, this is just a poster data, one of the more than 000-year-old Roidmi F6s we use has a maximum suction power of 1 pascals, and you can get by with that. The good news is that the higher the maximum suction power, the higher it will be even in low settings, which means that you will experience either greater power or quieter operation in the case of newer battery vacuum cleaners. Anything that produces a suction power greater than 18 kPa can be considered a powerful upright vacuum cleaner model.
How much does a standing vacuum cleaner go with one charge?
The operating time depends primarily on the capacity of the battery and the absorbed power. We have seen all kinds between 15 and 90 minutes, any model with a replaceable battery is the remedy for short operating times. In any case, we wouldn't buy a battery-operated vacuum cleaner with a working time of less than 30 minutes, but these are perfect, for example, for larger kitchens, where you only vacuum for 5 minutes, if something spills, you can still use it for 1 week.
The operating time of the stick vacuum cleaners, which can be used for more serious cleaning, starts at 50 minutes, which means that 100 square meters can be pushed through. If you choose a vacuum cleaner with a replaceable battery, it is worth buying one when you buy it, because many years later it is not certain that it will still be available.
How often should a stationary vacuum cleaner be serviced?
A few things tend to go wrong with a cordless vacuum cleaner:
- the roller brush and one of its parts
- filters
- the battery
The roller brush and the small silicone wheel on the motorized head must be replaced, and the flexible stub in the head of the wireless vacuum cleaner can split from a lot of pushing and screwing. It's quite a pain to replace, but it's a penny item. By definition, the layers responsible for filtering the air must also be replaced by new ones, such as the HEPA filter.
Batteries get tired after a certain number of charges, which is why replaceable variants are better, because you can do it with one movement. Either use the replacement batteries, or if you put them in reserve, charge them to medium voltage and store them in a dry place protected from light.
How many years can a standing vacuum cleaner work?
As I mentioned before, the 2018 Roidmi F1 is still in use today and its operating time is the same as when it was new. The motor head had to be replaced after 6 years, but the damage to it was caused by our own fault, apart from that we only changed filters. We know a couple of Jimmy wireless vacuum cleaners, they are of a similar age, they also work, but their painting is worn, that is, they have aesthetic deficiencies.
There are also Trouver vacuum cleaners in the circle of acquaintances, here the battery already had to be changed. Among the western brands, the family members have Phillips - the wheel squeaks and the tire cracks from day 1 - and Rowenta - it's much better, but weak - and they have been working for years. If a stick vacuum cleaner receives care, it can be used for a long time, and if something goes wrong, it can almost always be repaired.
What wiping and mopping methods are there?
So far, we have only come across one of them, and this is a cleaning container that can be snapped on behind the motorized head. In the case of such wireless vacuum cleaners, the battery is either mechanically pressed onto the head or held in place by a magnet, but the principle of operation is the same for all of them: gravity releases water onto the mop. You could also buy 2 in 1, i.e. dry-wet vacuum cleaners.
Which is the best upright vacuum cleaner with mop?
If only mopping is important, then I would vote for a dry-wet vacuum cleaner instead of a cordless vacuum cleaner, a list of these you can find it here.
How wet does mopping make the floor?
Start from what happens during traditional mopping. Roughly wring out the mop and wipe the floor with it. This is an uneven solution that uses more or less water, which eventually leaves the floor stained. In contrast, a stick vacuum cleaner capable of mopping dispenses water much more evenly, so the quality of mopping is more even and the surface dries faster.
Do I need a dust bag in the standing vacuum cleaner?
By default, no, stick vacuum cleaners suck dirt into a plastic container with a HEPA filter. If you choose a self-draining solution, the dirt goes into a dust bag in the docking station, which must be replaced every few weeks.
Can a stationary vacuum cleaner disinfect?
By default, most wireless vacuum cleaner models are not capable of this, but those with a cleaning tank can be filled with chemicals recommended for cleaning. Some mite removal heads disinfect with UV light, but there are also devices that also kill mites with heat. Rather, these already belong to the scope of mite removal equipment.
What is the difference between suction power and suction power?
The suction power (AW, i.e. air watt) is a value given in watts, while the suction force is expressed in pascals. The former shows how much power is required for the robot vacuum cleaner to produce the suction power. It is also customary to give a plain watt value, this is the power that the vacuum cleaner takes from the battery, part of which is converted into heat and the other part into rotation in the motor.
How do upright vacuum cleaners filter the air?
In general, most stick vacuum cleaners use a multi-stage system. There is a metal filter for larger particles, a sponge filter, a HEPA filter for micro particles, as well as a carbon filter for odors, and the dirt can be pressed to the side of the tank by air circulation.
How much time can I save with a standing vacuum cleaner?
In fact, traditional vacuum cleaners are being replaced by wireless solutions. The real time saving comes from the fact that you don't have to plug the device in, there is no limit to the cable length, and overall you can move faster with it. However, we wouldn't call this a significant time saving - a maximum of 10-20% - but since the cleaning itself is easier - it is a smaller, more mobile device that is easy to disassemble, stand on a ladder, etc. -, therefore, when using a stick vacuum cleaner, the feeling of cleaning improves. If you want to save time, buy a robotic vacuum cleaner that can be automated.
Is it possible to save money with such devices?
Yes, you can, but since this can be a process that can last for several hours, wireless vacuum cleaners cannot work that long. The solution is either 2 batteries, or the need to dust the rooms and then vacuum the dirt from the ground, this solution worked for us. Obviously, the floor area limits the possibilities, but 100 square meters can be finished in 30-50 minutes, depending on the thoroughness of the cleaning.
How long does it take to charge a cordless vacuum cleaner?
Primarily, this depends on the battery capacity, but within a few hours. In this segment, we have not yet come across devices capable of fast charging. However, this is not really necessary, a cordless vacuum cleaner with a 60-minute operating time will last for 2-3 weeks even with faster daily cleanings, and everyone charges these devices anyway before the major cleaning.
Does the standing vacuum cleaner really wind up the cables and catch the carpet fringes?
In our experience, the answer to both is yes. Standing vacuum cleaners cannot really be equipped with object detection, like robot vacuum cleaners, but this is not necessary, since you can see the things in front of you.
Does the upright vacuum cleaner detect dirt?
There are wireless models that can do this. Either there is a dirt detection sensor at the bottom of the motorized head, which shows on the built-in display how much dirt is on the floor, or a laser illuminates the floor, drawing out dust particles and hairs. The former is "techy", the latter is useful, we think the lighting invented by Dyson works better in practice.
Does a standing vacuum cleaner damage the floor and furniture?
Basically no, we've tested dozens of copies and never had a problem with it. On the other hand, the very cheap, nylon fiber, coarse bristles can fluff the carpet, these are typically found in noname solutions - for example Moosoo K17 - occur, do not buy this. Fortunately, these devices have practically disappeared from the market.
Does an upright vacuum cleaner clean up crumbs or food residue?
For crumbs, yes, because if you remove the fittings from the body of the vacuum cleaner, it can easily be used as a crumb vacuum cleaner. It is better to pick up food residue that is sticky or liquid - milk, eggs, all kinds of porridge - with a dry-wet vacuum cleaner, they will solve this without any problems. Another question is how good it is to clean their tank afterwards.
Can I clean my car with a stationary vacuum cleaner?
Yes, they used to give it all kinds of bristle heads, flexible pipes and the like. We have done this several times, but the thing does not reach the level of a professional cleaning, you can polish the car to 80-90%. The main problem is with the mud and leaves that have been trampled into the upholstery, which are difficult for wireless vacuum cleaners to deal with, and the plastic fleas on which the rubber mats can be snapped also obstruct the rotary brush.
Where can I find accessories for the vacuum cleaner?
On the one hand, there are usually supplies and accessories on the manufacturer's websites, and on the other hand, they are almost always available in online stores such as Alza. Another typical site is Aliexpress, where it is often written that an accessory or accessory can be used for several models.
Does a corded upright vacuum cleaner make sense?
The question is quite complex, it is actually a combination of traditional and wireless solutions. They are much easier than the former, and they can be made stronger for the latter. But if we want to be honest, we haven't seen much good from this yet, because they carry the weaknesses of both segments. Of course, this does not mean that it is not possible to find a suitable one on the market, if someone specifically needs a corded standing vacuum cleaner, there is a good chance that you can find one for yourself.
Where are the category boundaries for stick vacuum cleaners?
It is quite difficult to draw the boundaries in the case of stick vacuum cleaners, since domestic prices also depend significantly on fluctuations in the USD/HUF or EUR/HUF exchange rates. That is why we gave the set to which the given devices belong in dollars.
Lower-Midrange: $100-$150
It's surprising, but you can find great pieces here too, which are easily enough for a 50 square meter studio. Of course, the extra functions are omitted, but most users do not need this.
Middle category: $150-$300
The competition in the middle category of wireless vacuum cleaners is fierce, you can find almost everything here, even high-tech ones, and self-emptying solutions are sometimes available for around $300. The same can be said for this as for the lower-middle category, but it is full of upright vacuum cleaners with greater suction power and longer operating time, and most of them have replaceable batteries.
Upper-Midrange: $300-$500
Actually, this is a bit of a no-man's land, here you can find the top products of the second-line manufacturers, or the older top models of the top names, and the self-emptying stick vacuum cleaners also fit into this segment. Lots of extra features - app-based control, laser scraping light, mopping, very long operating time, etc. – the devices get, but Dyson, for example, typically prices its newly appearing wireless vacuum cleaners above this category.
Upper category: $500-$1500
The cream of the creams is here, but overpricing is very typical, in some places it is incomprehensible how something can cost 7-8x as much as in the lower-middle category. We already had a few such devices in our hands and, for example, the quality of the materials and the assembly do not jump nearly as much as the price would justify. New achievements almost always appear here, these stick vacuum cleaners really know everything that can be known according to the current state of science.
